La-Stone Massage: What to Expect

Hot stone massage — sometimes called La-Stone therapy — uses smooth, heated basalt stones placed on key points of the body and used as an extension of the therapist's hands.

The heat from the stones causes blood vessels to dilate, which increases circulation and allows muscles to soften more quickly than they would under manual pressure alone. This makes it especially effective for clients carrying chronic tension in the back, shoulders, and neck.

A typical session begins with the stones being warmed in water, followed by a full-body Swedish-style massage using the stones themselves, then targeted work on especially tight areas.

Because heat is involved, always let your practitioner know about any circulatory conditions, pregnancy, or skin sensitivity before your session begins.
